EVALUATION
PROCESS
-
To
qualify for the DandieStar, submitted sites have to pass
an entrance check in which all of the following BASIC CRITERIA
have to be fulfilled. Eligible sites score 50 basic points.
If a site doesn't meet the CRITERIA it will be disqualified.
-
Sites
that have passed the first check will now enter the second
part of the EVALUATION process, in which another 50 points
can be scored.
-
At
the end of the evaluation process all results of the individual
evaluators will be added and divided by the number of evaluators
(3 at the moment).
GENERAL
-
Sites
must have a central theme and must offer more than just
links, downloads, gifs, or an award program only.
-
Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
-
Sites
that violate law, glorify violence and/or contain vulgarities,
discrimination or pornography will be disqualified at once.
-
Sites
must have more than 15 pages and no "Under Construction"
areas.
-
Sites
are only allowed to have one banner ad per page.
-
Sites
that can only be navigated via a Java applet menu or that
block the right mouse button will be disqualified, and should
be readable without having to scroll horizontally.
CONTENT
-
We
only evaluate sites in German or English or sites that offer
a version in one of these languages.
-
We
evaluate personal and commercial web sites. Commercial sites
have to offer more than personal ones, so our evaluation
will be a lot stricter.
-
Any
topic (apart from the ones described in "General")
is welcome as long as it's well researched and offered in
an interesting way.
-
Texts
and graphics that are not your own have to be marked and
credit must be given. We do not accept copyright violation,
and we will disqualify sites that make use of that.
-
The
page on which your own awards are displayed must be easy
to access and not be hidden somewhere. If an applicant has
an award program of his own we expect serious criteria and
an adequate presentation of the awards won.
DESIGN and LAYOUT
- The design
of the sites should be as harmonious and consistent as possible. We
are not very enthusiastic about low quality graphics, imperfect layout,
too many fonts and sizes, or too colourful pages that are very hard
to read.
- Your site
should be viewable in the latest browser versions.
- We appreciate
the use of new web technologies as long as they don't cause any problems
with our browser. Flash pages must have a "skip intro" button.
- Loading
times should be acceptable. We are prepared to wait a bit longer for
pages with great graphics. But we are not willing to wait for one minute
or longer with a 56k connection. We will leave a site like that without
looking at it.
- We do
not like pop-up windows, and we prefer an economical use of Java applets.
- Not everybody
likes music, so if you use music on your site, there must be a way to
turn it off.
- Animations
and blinking Gifs should be used sparingly.
NAVIGATION
-
Navigation
must be easy. If possible not more than three mouse clicks
should be necessary to access each page. Make the navigation
easy for your visitors by using "Home, Back, and Top"
buttons.
-
Broken
links or images, external links that open in your own frameset,
internal links that always open in new windows, horizontal
scroll bars in 800x600 or higher, are unacceptable.
-
Sites
in full screen mode that hide our task bar, and forces us
to use the ALT-TAB keys to switch tasks will lose points.
