About 1870 showing dogs became popular and in 1873 the Kennel Club was founded. At that time Dandie enthusiasts decided to found a club. On November 17th, 1875 the first meeting was held at the Fleece Hotel in Selkirk and by this "The Dandie Dinmont Terrier Club" (D.D.T.C.) became reality.

Thus the D.D.T.C. is the oldest dog club of the world.

The first job was to decide on a breed standard that was passed in the The Red Lion, a hotel in Carlisle, in 1876 and in 1877 there was the first show in Carlisle. And from 1983 onward (again) in the Carlisle region, often in the Swallow Hilltop Hotel, the place of the 125th Anniversary Show.

Many Dandie Dinmont Clubs had been founded in Scotland but they did not last for long with the exception of the Scottish Dandie Dinmont Terrier Society, having merged with the D.D:T.C. in 1929.

The D.D.T.C. annually chooses its Award Winners. Points may be collected at Championship Shows , with and without CCs, and the Open Shows of the D.D.T.C., SDDTC, and CDDTC. Determined will on the "Dandie of the Year", "Best Dog", Best Bitch, "Best Stud Dog", Best Brood Bitch" and "Puppy of the Year".

Today in the year 2013, the D.D.T.C. exists already for 138 years and consists members from the U.K., Europe, and Overseas.
