The Report by Ferelith Somerfield
It
gave me the greatest pleasure to be part of the Dandie Dinmont Terrier
Club's special weekend which was not only a millennium celebration,
but also marked the 125th year of its formation. It was also an honour
to be invited to this ch show for the second time, my first visit
being in 1980. There were 132 dogs entered but a number were complimentary.
My
lasting memory of the show itself will probably be of those really
lovely bitches who fought out the final challenge for the CC, but
the warmth of hospitality and friendliness from Friday night through
until I reached the station of Sunday will come a close second.
The
chairman and secretary always carry most of a show and in this case
they were also the show managers so we must all thank Jackie Shore
and Janice Murray.
They
had a lot of helpers and I think the excellent stalls carrying so
many super Dandie items (and I include Rabart For Fine Art here) gave
the show a real lift and must have been appreciated by especially
the overseas visitors.

DOGS
Minor
Puppy Dog (5)
1.
Wheble's Fernroyal Mr Chuckles at Penactiv, most promising mustard,
good strong jaw, lovely eyes, good neck, shoulders and outline, well
made quarters;
2. Detchon's Mosterlada Celtic Lord, 6 months p/s, good muzzle and
mouth, nice expression, very shapely and correct for his age;
3. Morrice's Dawsholme Ghillie Blue of Shonillian.
Puppy Dog (0+2)
1. Gilbert's Cassencarrie Keymaster, very smart moving p/s, I liked
his length and topline but he has to mature in front, at the moment
looks "leggy", but is only 10 months. Pleasing head and
eye, nice coat and furnishings, good width and strength in thighs,
BPD;
2. M Celtic Lord.
Junior Dog (3)
1. Murray and Hill's Dentgate Watermark at Bencharra, very nice young
mustard, very good shape, neat quarters, good neck and shoulder, pleasing
head and eye with good pigment. Still very raw but most promising;
2. Peacock's Fernroyal Mr Flintstone, mustard, nice masculine head,
very good bone and feet, good chest and depth. Not as pleasing in
shape with a rather long flat loin. Good coat, lovely temperament;
3. Coleman's Follycott Frank Lee.
Novice Dog (0+2)
1. F Frank Lee, good head and eye, strong jaw and teeth, good coat
texture. Lacked shape in outline.
Graduate Dog (2)
1. Mannia's Kirkskill Wood Barley, nice size mustard, good body and
rib, in nice coat and body condition. Not so good in front and being
a typical Dandie more interested in seeing what he could find on the
ground than moving properly.
Post Graduate Dog (6)
1. Kerrush's Micklam Newshound, very typical pleasing p/s, excellent
shape, nice for length and quarters, moving with drive, nice forehand
but could be a little stronger in pastern;
2. MacInnes' Glencobo Wrekin Lad at Bettymac, very raw p/s, not just
so pleasing in topline. Good bone and feet, pleasing head and eye;
3. Perry's Somercloud Tinkeman.
Limit Dog (11+1)
1. Cadwallader's Glencobo Grinshil Lad, attractive young p/s, pleasing
head, nice outline and shape, well made quarters. Can still mature
a little in front;
2. Gibson's Somercloud Handyman, p/s, lovely head and eye, nice breadth
and depth on front but not just as firm in elbows, good body and rib,
nice coat;
3 Eardley's Blaven Barbirolli at Sherex.
Open Dog (12) Lovely class.
1. CC, Derry's Vistca Vaudeville, very sound handsome mustard,
good head and eye, lovely body and rib, nice outline, good quarters,
nice tail. His super movement carried the day;
2. RCC, Weatherstone's Borderstone Hush Hush, lovely head and
eye, shown naturally and he demonstrated his good make and shape,
well made quarters, good coat and condition, moved well but not so
pleasing in tail;
3 Chapman-King's Ch Inzievar Silver Sword.
Veteran Dog (7)
1. Harker's Berdanfrey Sandpiper, very nice mustard, in good coat
and condition at 8 years, good length, very shapely, moved well;
2. Bradley and Bamber's Renald Figaro, 9 1/2 years, shorter dog and
not quite the scope in movement, gorgeous head and eye, in lovely
coat and condition;
3. McKenzie's Avonview Esquire.
BITCHES
Veteran Bitch (15)
1. Russell's Ch Geisha's Firecracker, quality p/s who set the standard
for the bitch class. At 9 1/2 years can still compete with the best
and indeed was a finalist in the line-up for the BCC. Good head and
eye, very good forehand, shapely, well made quarters, moved and showed
well. BV;
2. Camm's Ch Banburg Gypsy at Somercloud, another splendid 9-year-old,
good head, very good body, rib and coat, great character. Little open
in feet now;
3. Jarvis' Bonnie Dunbar of Inzievar.
Vintage Bitch (3)
1. McLeod's Ch Healaval Cushet, very nice mustard, in splendid form
for 10 1/2, good eye and so expressive, moved well; 2. Heaton's Moorbarrow
Turtle Dove, p/s, now over 13 and still has all her teeth in good
order but not so active now.

neck, well placed elbows, nice quarters, full of character;

head and eye, nice outline. I scored in hind action on the day;
3 Chapman-King's Mosterlada Wild Heather of Inzievar.
Puppy Bitch (5+1)
1 Hulme's Hendell Evening Star, rich coloured mustard, good head and
eye, pleasing neck, shoulders and outline, promise of a good coat,
moved and showed well but needs to strengthen in pasterns, Best Puppy;
2 Shore's Swanwillow Bewitched, paler mustard whose coat lacks a little
texture at present. Good body, bone and depth, nice thighs and quarters,
moved soundly; 3 Bennie's Bettymac Victoria Mae.
Junior Bitch (7)
1. Morrice and Danks' Shonillian Dandilly Poppet with Dawsholm, quality
feminine p/s, good head, lovely eye, pleasing neck and shoulders,
splendid quarters, nice coat, moved and showed well. I liked her very
much and she was kept in the last few for the CC;
2. Derry's Vistca Violet, bigger mustard in full coat. Not just as
feminine or as positive in rear movement on the day but a very nice
typical bitch with good neck and shoulders;
3. Heywood's Suske's Pop Schalulleke.
Novice Bitch (1+1)
1. Charlton's Wenabarr Pollyanna, nice head, mouth not just perfect,
good rib, enjoyed herself, full of character.
Graduate Bitch (6)
1. Bailey's Stinchcombe Meadow Saffron, feminine mustard, nice eye
and expression, shapely, moved nicely. More could be made of her coat;

good body, bone and rib, strong thighs. Coat a bit full;

Post Graduate Bitch (7)
1. McLeod's Healaval Tansy, pleasing head though mouth not just perfect.
Good neck, shoulders and outline, moved soundly;

soundly and generally typical in make and shape;
3. Halliwell's Dentgate Debutante of Dengold.
Limit Bitch (12+1) Super class, best of the day.
1. Camm's Glencobo Lawley Lady at Somercloud, lovely, quality, feminine
b/s, good head and eye, very good forehand, good neck, shoulders and
outline, in lovely condition, splendid mover and this took her through
to
CC and BIS;
2. Chapman-King and Langford's Inzievar Inspiration, another beauty,
only a mustard this time. In super coat and condition, just right
in body, very good rib, is strong and well made all through;
3. Averis' Saredon Summer Rain.
Open Bitch (7+2)
1. Tinsley's Ch Cloverwood Bittersweet, beautiful headed p/s, so feminine
and a lovely expression, good neck and shoulders, great topline, nice
