Up to 1945 there were only 52 Dandie Dinmont Terriers inscribed in the Stud-Book of the Klub für Terrier (KfT), 44 Dandies out of German breedings and 8 imported dogs. Breeders of that time were: Mrs. von Malinckrodt from the Chiemsee under her kennel name"von dem Daxlberg", and Mrs. Schnorr from Carolsfeld/Berlin. During the war a bomb struck her house and killed her and her dogs. In the years of the war the former breeding came to an end. After the war only one single Dandie import was noted under number 53 in the German Stud-Book. And it was Gertraude Maaß who restarted breeding in Germany in 1964 with her bitch Watersend Sparkle, imported from England in 1962. |
Development of Breed When we got our first Dandie Dinmont Terrier in 1983 we immediately took an interest in the history of this charming breed. It was not long before we learned a lot of information on litters and imports from breeders of that time, especially a list of all Dandie litters and exports of the period from 1956 to 1963. By the time we succeeded in getting nearly all missing information and completing and respectively putting down the development of our breed. For the breeding data collected by me during the last 18 years please have a look in the following tables: |
